Step into Carol Kay Green’s shoes for a while and journey into the mind of the mentally ill. She knows the way. Green is not a medical professional surmising what a patient must be thinking. She is not a scientist explaining what is going on in the brain. Nor is she a family member discussing a mentally ill relative. Green speaks from direct knowing. She is one who has lived through mental institutions, remembers what happened, and has the courage to tell us what it is like from the inside.
