Glenn Vosper’s poems can dance, capturing the playfulness of the holidays, as in “The Christmas Rap”: Shop for those you love and like, and those you don’t can take a hike. Others, such as “Life Is a Stranger”, wander in the challenges of our everyday life: Life is a stranger we meet everyday, where uncertainty lies ahead. Having had more than his share of challenges, Glenn’s writing also reflects his grappling with deeper issues, ones that hit us all. With his pointed and succinct descriptions, we all feel as he does, as in “A Meaning Lost”: And now it seems that I’m alone, a shallow life, a rolling stone. But Glenn is a survivor, and he knows the power of persistence, of believing in one’s self, of taking positive action. Hope, in the end, pervades his work, especially suggested in “Along the Line”: Somewhere along the line, we may turn around, and we might even find there is another way.

Through the distinctive prism of his extraordinary life, Claus Hackenberger illuminates those small but significant moments we all encounter in this world we share.
