Editorial Services
Editing the book can be the most important process of the whole book’s manufacture. A manuscript must compete not only with other books which may have a similar message but with other demands on the reader’s time. It must include these steps:
- idea development
- structure
- message substance
- reader appeal and presentation
A fee will be estimated after review of the project.
Cover Art & Graphics
Up to three cover concepts will be provided, after which one will be refined, subject to the author’s approval. In today’s competitive trade book market, an attractive four-color cover that induces impulse buying is important.
Book Design & Layout
The objective of formatting is to optimize readability, clarity, and esthetic appeal. As soon as possible in the writing process, consultation regarding book and text design can save thousands of dollars by enabling the author to avoid common formatting problems. Book design includes outline refinement for document consistency, considering formats for text entry, graphics/illustrations, charts, glossary, appendices, bibliography, footnotes, quotes, indexes, etc.
We prefer documents in Word (WordPerfect is a distant second). Graphics must be TIFF or EPS, no PICT.
eBook Set Up
We convert your manuscript to digital reading formats for NOOK, Kindle, iPad, etc. with or without a printed edition. As with all the publishing work we do, the author retains all copyrights. More Information about eBooks
Final Pagination & Camera-ready Conversion
Final pagination and camera-ready conversion compiles your manuscript into book draft.
Proofreading & Correction Cycle (Copy-editing)
Proofreading (copy-editing) is the application of a red pencil to ensure that a manuscript is grammatically correct and perfectly spelled and punctuated. Proofreading, followed by corrections by the book designer, is repeated at least twice and up to six times (more for technical material if necessary and approved by author).
Printing Management
Printing management is the process in which we order, track, and approve each step of the book-printing process to assure a quality printing job. We determine printing specifications and secure bids from up to three printers to get the best quality print job at the most reasonable rate. Coordination fee includes getting the printing bid and shipping all the production pieces (cover, ISBN and Library of Congress numbers, bar code, text, etc.) to the printer in a timely fashion and monitoring the production process.
Distribution Services
Authors choose book distribution services to supply their books to wholesalers and online retailers.
